The Power and the Glory

A/N: Another response on this book.

Decisions. In life there are many and most of them don't effect the outcome of you life. In the book the Whiskey priest makes a few decisions that effect his life significantly, the first being to go with the child to the "ill" person and miss his boat away to safety. Other decisions he makes range all over the place from being a complete drunk to not marrying and breaking his vow so that he would be safe. The people he is around also have to make difficult decisions that could also effect their lives if they were to be caught. A woman claiming that he was he husband while her child claimed him, his father. All of these decisions could easily turn into an outcome of death if they turn even the slightest bit the wrong way. So why make such a life changing decision in the first place that could effect not only his life but the lives of others?

A/N: After reading the first chapter of the book The Power and the Glory, I decided to respond to the fact that the main character had no name. April 27, 2011.

Names. Names define who we are. Without them who are we? A persons name is everything to them. If they didn't have it; if no one had one how would anything be known for sure. When you are being talked to or talking to someone frequently names are used to point out who someone is speaking to. To be nameless would to be as though the person is not actually there. That is the main character of the book The Power and the Glory , nameless making him  almost not there period. This all pushes us toward the irony being the mode of the book.

  1. You did a really good job with this! I noticed your authors note was copied twice, so you may want to delete the first one. This was really interesting and I hadn't thought about it as if he wasn't there. Great job!
