Fire

Author's Note: This was a journal entry we did a really long time ago and now I decided to create a poem out of it. Enjoy!

A single candle
Left unattended
For five minutes.

No one knew
The wind would blow
The candlestick over.

Nothing could be done
As the candle fell
Causing flames to grow.

First engulfing the drapes,
The lovely flowery drapes,
Were charred and became ash.

A small child entered
The room filled with flames
And instantly let go of his plate.

Shattering and splashing as it hit the floor
The plate was no more
The boy then began to cry.

Then the child was no longer standing
But was a heap on the floor
As his sister ran in from another room.
The older girl ran to his aide
But then she saw the flames
Grabbed her brother
And rushed out of the apartment.

Tearfully they watched
The building burn
Never once noticing,
There were no other survivors.

The children orphaned
With no living relatives
Watched the fire
Take there parents lives.
