A really long time ago, well eight years ago my family had two birds. They happened to be parakeets. They're names were Dinner and Lunch. Don't ask why because I don't have any clue as to the origin of the names. My parents had them named before I could speak logically. Both of the birds looked practically identical so you could never figure out which was which. We would let them out of their cage and they would fly aroud our house making it seem like a tropical rain forest. One day when I was about three and a half Dinner decided to eat Lunch or was it Lunch decided to eat Dinner. Talk about cannibalism! All that I know for sure is that my mom then disposed of the parakeet that we had left. To this day I still don't remember what exactly happened to the other bird who was not eaten.
YIKES! I love this entry. I am strangely attracted to the whole thing because it is so real. I suppose it's not strange at all that I like it so much; there is something compelling about what may seem mundane to the author. What we take for granted, is fresh and new to others. You pulled me in, and made me quite curious about other stories you may have about the two birds. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's.. erm.. interesting. I've never heard of cannibal birds before! Dinner and Lunch sound like interesting birds, and strangely enough, I like their names!
ReplyDeleteThe story is actually entirely the truth. I am not sure that I have any more stories about the two birds, seeing as I was only about four years old.
ReplyDeleteYa know, their names were actually pretty ironic. (Not like the mode of literature ironic)One of them ended up eating the other for dinner or lunch. Why did you name them Dinner and Lunch?

ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something out of a Judy Bloom book, the way something really strange happens so calmly.
ReplyDeleteFinally another cannibal! You didn't hear that. Anyway, good story. I like how the simplest things that happen to you can make a good story.
ReplyDeleteWe named them Lunch and Dinner because my mom wanted something simple to call them seeing as my sister and I were only two and three years old. The birds also looked identical.
ReplyDeleteOkay, maybe it sounds like a Judy Bloom book, but I wouldn't know because I have never read any.
ReplyDeleteThat was a really kind of funny journal entry. I had 2 hamsters once and one of them ate the other just like your birds.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!!!
ReplyDeleteGo cannibals!
ReplyDeleteReally, Derek, Really?????!!!!! :-P
ReplyDeleteNo we are not!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm at a loss for words.
ReplyDeleteWOW Derek. WOW!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that story is really interesting. I can't believe the Lunch(or dinner) ate dinner(or lunch)! Were you feeding them enough?
Yes we were.....at least for what I know!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I miss you all:) Love the story, Maggie! You pulled me in immediately with the intriguing title!
ReplyDeleteSERIOUSLY DEREK! That's gross and weird!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments I never thought that this would be any good at all.
ReplyDeleteThat story reminds me of mylifeisaverage.com. You should submit your story to them, and if you've never been there then you should go there it has some pretty funny stories.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Let's get a hold of ourselves! (Derek) (I'm not naming names)(Derek)
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!!
ReplyDeleteMaggie, ewwwwwwwwwwww.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I was totally drawn in (probably because I am your aunt, met the lovebirds know there have never been parakeets and was fascinated when in the past I read about Hannibel the Cannibal in, Silence of the Lambs). Anyway, I found the piece enticing and it poses the question, is fantasy truly fantasy if it is reality to the one who fantisizes...or to get a bit more philosophical, what is the nature of reality...if a tree crashes into the ground in an uninhabited forest, no human there to hear it...is there noise?
Aunt Nancy
Did you read the other one that states what is actually true and not just my mind playing tricks on me???
ReplyDeleteOf course I read it. And, I liked them both . My personal preference is always fiction though. I think it may be an attention span thing.
